COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CORROSION INHIBITION PERFORMANCE OF TWO PLANT EXTRACTS IN CASSAVA FLUID

ABSTRACT

A comparative study of the corrosion inhibition performance of Azadirachta indica (neem) and Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf) leaves extracts was undertaken using weight loss method of corrosion measurement.The results showed that the inhibition performance of neem extract in cassava fluid was higher compared to bitter leaf extract. The corrosion rates at 0.2 g/L, 0.8 g/L and 1.0 g/L of neem were observed to be lower compared to the corrosion rates at the same concentrations (0.2 g/L, 0.8 g/L and 1.0 g/L) of bitter leaf. There is no difference in the corrosion rates at 0.4 g/L and 0,6 g/L of the extracts(neem and bitter leaf).Similarly, the inhibition efficiencies of neem at  0.2 g/L,0.8 g/L and 1.0g/L were observed to be higher than that  of bitter leaf at the same  concentrations. There is no difference in the inhibition efficiencies of the extracts (neem and bitter leaf) at concentrations of 0.4 g/L and 0.6 g/L
