Even for someone who advises eCommerce businesses outside of Amazon Marketplace, I find data gathered from Sellzone offers a fresh angle and helps generate new marketing ideas. If you sell your products on Amazon, Sellzone is, at the very least, worth trying. Regardless of the size of your business, I recommend you to sign up for the free plan and run traffic analysis following my guide above. In this review, I will share my thoughts on how to use some of the tools offered by Sellzone to grow your business on Amazon.

  • Listing monitoring tool – get instant alert when something goes wrong

So you are selling on Amazon? I'm sure you are aware that your marketing efforts at Amazon play a huge part in defining your success. By “marketing efforts” – I mean ranking ahead of your competitors on Amazon.com, attracting new traffic from various sources, and continuously improving your shop sales performance.

It’s not an easy process, yet when you have the right help, you can do things smartly and set up everything for the ultimate success.

That’s where Sellzone kicks in.

What is Sellzone?

Powered by Semrush, Sellzone is a platform that’s designed to help Amazon sellers ensure the top performance of their business to get maximum results. The platform offers seven tools that can help both beginners and advanced Amazon sellers navigate through all the uncertainties and find their way to success:

  • Product Research—a tool for discovering your next winning Amazon product that has both the demand and fewer competitors.
  • Keyword Wizard—a tool for unwrapping keywords with the highest impact for enhancing your Amazon visibility.
  • Split Testing—a tool for running split tests of your Amazon listing for finding the highest-performing listing elements.
  • Listing Quality Check—a listing audit tool that makes sure your listing complies with Amazon’s requirements and style guides and meets the best practices.
  • Traffic Insights—a tool that helps to reveal additional traffic sources for expanding your listing’s reach.
  • PPC Optimizer—a tool that automates your Amazon advertising campaigns and ensures their utmost efficiency.
  • Listing Alerts—a tool that helps to prevent any hijacker threats and helps to secure your Amazon business.

In this article, I will share my thoughts on using Product Research, Keyword Wizard, Split Testing, and Traffic Insights to build and grow your business on Amazon. In my opinion, these are the four most powerful tools in Sellzone.

1. Product Research

Sellzone Product Research

Sellzone's Product Research tool comes in handy when you need to find an in-demand product (high demand) that comes with a good profit margin (low competition).

Currently, this Product Research tool is free. So if you are just starting your Amazon journey and need some data to help with product selection – try this out > visit Sellzone.

How to use Sellzone's Product Research tool?

To begin, simply key in your product category and keyword, and the tool will show you tons of market metrics including:

  • Sales per month indicate the average volume of sales a month. So the higher the number, the better.
  • Selling price simply reflects the price of a listed product.
  • Fees show how much money you should expect to give away, including the FBA fee, referral fee, and variable closing fees. This will help you calculate your potential margins. Yet the Profit estimate will already show how much you can expect to make from selling this product, including all the Amazon fees. You can use the in-built FBA calculator next to the Profits to change some specs and recalculate the margins.
  • Sellers stat reveals how many other sellers are selling this product.
  • Reviews reveal how many customer reviews a product has. Amazon does take the number of reviews into account when ranking a certain product so you should pay attention to this metric as well.
  • Rating reflects the average rating and stars of the product.
  • Variations show how many product variations are out there, meaning whether the product comes in different colors, sizes, or any other variables.
  • BSR (Best Seller Ranking) points to the overall ranking the product is under. The more sales, the higher the ranking.
  • Categories reflect whether a product falls under different categories.

Tips

  1. Focus on the products that have the perfect balance between monthly sales, competition level, BSR, and other specs. Use filters to find the lowest-hanging fruits in your product category.
  2. Remove products that are also sold by Amazon itself—it’s hard to compete there, so simply check the box within the Advanced filter to get rid of such products from your list (see image below).

2. Keyword Wizard

Sellzone Keyword Wizard

With text relevancy as one of the key ranking factors on Amazon Marketplace, it is important to choose the right keywords for your Amazon product listing. With Sellzone's Keyword Wizard, you can simply enter the name of the product you are selling and it will generate a list of relevant keywords.

Let's take this tool for a spin. Say, you found a promising body scrub product in your product research, “body scrub” will be your seed keyword for the Keyword Wizard tool.

How to Use Sellzone's Keyword Wizard?

Explore potential keywords within Amazon

Explore potential keywords in different matching possibilities: “Related”, “Broad Match”, and “Phrase Match”. Based on the data shown in our example, we can use “body exfoliator” on top of simply using “body scrub” all the time as the former has similar search volumes and the competition level.

Refine your search

  • Set up the highest search volume that reflects how many people search for the keyword every month.
  • Choose a lower competition range to pick a keyword that has fewer competing listings.
  • Exclude brand names so you get a clean list that’s not filled with brand names you won’t use.

Tips

Your Amazon Product Listing is not the only placement for your keywords. Amazon has a hidden search terms section within its Seller Central where you can include more keywords. Sellzone Keyword Wizard automates the keyword selection process and delivers a neat 250-character keyword list that can be copy-pasted into the section (click “Search Term” at the top of the table).

3. Split Testing

While Amazon does let you run some split tests, it only allows you to test three elements (title, primary image, and A+ content). Sellzone's Split Testing tool empowers you to test almost every part of your listing – title, description, bullets, images, videos, A+ content, and prices to maximize your conversion.

Using Sellzone's Split Testing tool

  1. Connect to your Amazon account (you'll need your Seller ID and MWS auth token).
  2. From the menu, pick one element to test. Say, you want to test your primary images. Simply change it in the second version of your listing and the tool will automatically launch a test splitting your visitors in two and giving them two versions of the same listing.
  3. Wait for at least 7 days to get enough performance data for making the right choice.
  4. Check your stats and select the winner that brings in the highest sales.
  5. Repeat this for a different part of your product listing.

4. Traffic Insights

Sellzone Traffic Insights
Sellzone Traffic Insights

Traffic Insights tool helps you compare different product performances and reverse engineer your competitors' promotion tactics.

Previously we talked about exploring keywords that help your listing rank higher within Amazon. But there are many more channels – think Google, influencers, blogs, etc; you can draw traffic from. Traffic Insights include traffic details inside and outside of Amazon – which makes it a great tool for those who wish to reach out and attract more customers.

How to use Sellzone's Traffic Insights tool

The Traffic Insights tool works best when you have a few competitors to analyze. To begin, select a few competitors whose success you might want to replicate and we will dissect their traffic sources and generate new marketing ideas. Here are a few things we can do:

Identify Potential Partners

The “Referral” implies that a listing has a link on an external website and people visit that listing through that link, the so-called backlink. To expand your Amazon business, you need to build partnerships with these sites which your competitors are getting traffic from.

Optimize for Google Search

In the “Google Organic” tab, the tool looks at your rivals’ keyword portfolios to unwrap the most valuable search terms they rank for to gather traffic from organic searches on Google.

Set up your filters right and get a more actionable and realistic list of terms you can actually rank for on Google:

  • Choose the highest search volume range – these numbers indicate how often a term is searched monthly.
  • Pick the highest traffic counts – the tool estimates how much traffic you can expect to get from a given keyword.
  • Pay attention to keyword competition – you need a lower competition count as this metric points to the number of Amazon listings that are also competing for rankings for a given keyword.

Once you set all the filters, you’ll see a shorter keyword list that you can integrate throughout your product listing on top of your Amazon keywords.

Amazon itself is a powerful domain so you can actually win some of the Google rankings with some simple optimization.

Amazon Advertising

Amazon as an ecosystem offers various channels that you can use to deliver your ads to its shoppers. You can create voice ads to play across Alexa-enabled devices, video ads to stream across Fire TV, or display ads to attract audiences on both Amazon-owned and third-party sites and apps.

However, for sellers and merchants – nothing beats on-site advertising on Amazon.com. Nearly 3 out of 4 Amazon customers use Amazon to discover new products or brands (74%, according to Amazon).

Amazon offers three main pay-per-click (PPC) advertising formats to sellers who want to get their products right in front of shoppers’ eyes:

  • Sponsored Products
  • Sponsored Displays
  • Sponsored Brands

To start with Amazon PPC Ads, you will have to know what are the right keywords to bid on. For example, if you sell running shoes, you might want to check if keywords like “running sneakers” and “jogging shoes” have a high search volume.

This is where Traffic Insights's Shopping Ads Report comes in handy. You'll get extensive data on your competitor's keyword – including the number of ad positions, search volume, keyword variations, number of competitors bidding on those keywords, and more.

Sellzone Plans & Pricing

Sellzone follows the freemium model and is somewhat modest with its pricing. Some of the tools that I mentioned come free and are available to all Amazon sellers. Others, however, are packaged under paid plans with various limits and price points.

Sellzone Alternatives

There aren't many marketing data tools that focus solely on Amazon Business. In case you wish to compare Sellzone with its alternatives – BigSpy, Semrush, and Ahrefs are the three closest options.

  • Semrush ($99.95/mo) – An all-in-one competitive intelligence suite for SEO and PPC marketers. To analyze your Amazon competitors, simply key in their product or listing URLs to the search bar.
  • BigSpy ($9/mo) – BigSpy is an affordable ad spy tool that tracks ads on various social media and eCommerce platforms. Technically speaking BigSpy does not do
  • Ahrefs ($99/mo) – Ahrefs Amazon Keyword Tool works similar to Sellzone's Traffic Insights. With nearly 100 million keywords in their US Amazon database alone, Ahrefs can be extremely useful for those who want to know what people are searching for on Amazon.
